How to find your perfect wedding photographer?
I am sure you are so excited about your big day! Choosing a wedding photographer is just one of many steps you'll make as you head down the aisle. All weddings are different, and not all wedding photographers are the same.
So I have put a few tips together you might want to consider when you’re looking for your photographer.
Which wedding photography style is perfect for you?
Each photographer has a certain style. Some take a more natural approach, for example, reportage photography while others are really into creating a beautiful fairy tale with carefully planned poses and settings. To decided which one is a best for you, start with your wedding theme and the rest will follow. Are you a classic bride who values tradition and have an appreciation for doing things a certain way? Or you are planning your elopement in Paris? Your theme will impact the mood of your wedding photos.
My primary goal as a wedding photographer is to tell your love story, to create photographs that you will fall in love with. My style is largely candid with a soft and romantic appeal. I will follow the day as it happens in an unobstructed manner. I will focus on capturing the emotions and feelings of your day.
Review photographer's work.
Review potential photographers website to check out photos of other weddings they've covered. Check out their other social channels such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, if possible. Some photographer are only posting highlights of the weddings, so don't afraid to ask to show you a full wedding day. A full gallery will give you a better sense of your photographer’s style, as well as his/her attention to details.
So you’ve found a photographer you like. Don’t just leave it to email. If you aren’t able to meet in person, set up a phone or Skype call. It's very important for couples to meet with the photographer. Unlike all your other vendors, your wedding photographer is the one person that will literately be with you the entire day. I think its extremely important that you are feel comfortable with that person.
I love to get to know my couples, so I always meet with them over a cup of coffee to hear their plans.
There are a few questions I believe you need to ask your photographer:
1. How many hours of coverage do we get? What is the charge for overtime?
2. What exactly is included in your packages?
3. Do you offer retouching? Are those included or its an additional charge?
4. Do you charge a travel fee?
5. How long after the wedding will we receive the images? How will they be delivered?
6. Are you insured? Does it cover your assistant (if any), as well?
7. When will we receive the contract and how much of a deposit do you require ?
8. Can we request a list of specific shots we would like?
Seal the deal
Once you've found your desired photographer now it's time to seal the deal and ask for wedding contract that details what services he/she will be providing, pricing, termination resolution terms, etc . It will help prevent any miscommunication and ensure you get the photos you want and the services you're paying for.
