First of all, I would like to thank everyone who entered our fantastic "Hair, Makeup and Photo Shoot Experience" competition! We got such a great response! I also received so many messages and questions asking how the makeover went, are any photographs available from the day, is this package available to the public, etc.?
So I am super excited to show you our day and answer all your questions.
Meet Diana, Hair Specialist and the owner of the Hair Salon ''Ballinacurra'':
" Hi, I am Diana!
I started hairdressing more than 10 years ago. I constantly keep up with the changing trends and have a good knowledge of the industry.
I love making people feel beautiful and happy! I always give my clients individual attention from consultation to the finished style.
I am a fun and very down to earth person, who loves every minute of my job!"
and that's me, Irina of "Happy Memories Photography":
"Hi, I am Irina!
I am professional photographer. No matter who is in front of my camera, a tiny newborn baby or a beautiful bride, my aim is to capture moments of happiness and create unique, beautiful photographs.
The photographic process does not end once the shutter button on the camera has been clicked. I am always on the hunt for new ideas, workshops, techniques and props!
I’m very lucky to have great clients and I do what I love the most - photography"
...and finally meet our winner Maria!
When we met Maria in the salon, she told us that she loves her blonde hair but she would like to see it in a more natural tone with a haircut that will be easy to maintain at home.
Diana says: "Blonde hair is much finer than darker pigmented hair and needs special care. The challenge is to color Maria's previously bleached hair without further damaging it and to give her natural softness and rich color that won't be too much maintenance. Over-processed hair by bleaching and dyeing is the most common cause of hair damage. It gets very dry and frizzy very easily. The good news is that new technology allow us to achieve that perfect blonde without any problems!"
And so the Makeover begins!
The first step is fixing the roots.
The next step is the haircut. "Long bob with a few layers in front is a flattering cut for most women. It lengthens the neck and frames the face", - explains Diana.
Healthy hair has the perfect balance of protein and moisture. The next step is to restore hair keratin that has been damaged by coloring hair over the years.
Final touches: blow-drying with round brush and styling! Our lucky winner already looks beautiful and happy!
Now it's time for a makeup!
Have you ever wondered why your perfect make up all of a sudden looks pale and unflattering in photos? Or when your makeup looks the bomb, but you can't get any good selfies?! Even celebrities from time to time suffer from "ghostly" or "white powder face".
Practically every foundation or concealer contains a sun protection factor (SPF) to protect against the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation. It contains ingredients, such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which works like a shield bouncing back the light. Unfortunately for us girls, the camera flash light is similar to sunlight and will bounce off these ingredients, leaving our skin with a ghostly appearance in photos.I hate it!
There is a specific makeup routine and products to make sure you will look your best in photos. If you are interested in learning more about "picture perfect makeup" please leave me a comment! It is a big topic to cover but I would be happy to do it.
Here is the list of camera-friendly products I used for Maria's makeup:
My goal was to create a natural, glowing and youthful look. By using a matte bronzer and highlighter, I made certain features stand out: cheekbones, the temples, the brow bones, the Cupid’s bow, and the bridge of the nose.
A photography flash can cause highlighter to look excessively shiny or glittery on the face (and can also cause a flashback). I recommend using a small brush for precise application. You don’t want to make swiping motions with your highlighter. Just gently tap on the area.
Maria's new haircut and color draw more attention to her eyes. I used my favorite Pippa for Black Canvas pallette on her eyes for a soft and natural look.
Here is the before and after! Maria looks radiant!
Hair done! Makeup done! Our model is ready for the photo session.
I chose a pink floral background that complemented Maria's new romantic soft hairstyle and makeup! She looks amazing!
